| Guozhuang Dance |

| Guxie or Guozhuang
is form of circle dancing common in Tibet. Guxie is the name
used in the Yaluzangbu River basin, and Guozhuang is the name
used in Changdu and the other prefectures. The dance has
different forms and characteristics in each different area.
The forms used in Batang, Changdu and shanan prefecture are
the most outstanding. The dance itself has many different
variations such as for sacrificial rites, celebrations,
marriage ceremonies and matches. The most variation is for the
match between villages. In this variation, there is no
limitation as to the number of participants and the dance is
done without music accompaniment. The dancers are divided in a
male group and a female group. The form a circle, hand in
hand, and follow a leader. Using foot stamp as rhythm.
Tibetans use dancing as a means to relieve fatigue, while
their youth use it as a chance for expressing love. |
