Generally, it is required to have Tibet Travel Permit & Chinese Visa for entering Tibet making a trip; these two documents are different with each other.
"Tibet Travel Permission" is permitted by Tibet Tourism Bureau (TTB), which is under administration of Tibet Local Authority;
"Chinese Visa" is permitted by Chinese Embassy, which is under administration of China Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The pre-applied Chinese visa is only valid when entering Tibet via other cities of China, and it will lose automatically its validity when coming through Nepal.
However, it is not sufficient to have just these two documents for a trip throughout the whole Tibet. Some other permits are required when making trips to some other restricted areas. |

| Basically, there are now only two ways that lead onto Tibet, whichever by land or by flight: |

| The necessary information for making a trip to Tibet with departure of Nepal: |

Together with the above listed information, Tibet Travel Permit & Chinese Visa will be both applied in Tibet, and the permitted information will be forwarded to Chinese Embassy in Katmandu, where a Kathmandu located Tour Company is required to obtaining Chinese Visa at Chinese Embassy, Not visitor;
With Chinese Visa obtained in Katmandu & Tibet Travel Permit you may enter Tibet for a trip; |

| When entering Tibet for a trip from other cities of China: |

Tibet Travel Permit will be applied before your arrival of China, and being mailed to the city, which you will departure for Tibet.
With Chinese Visa obtained in your country & Tibet Travel Permit you may enter Tibet for a trip; |

all Tibet Travel Permits are one entry; there is no Multi-entry Tibet Travel Permit. |

diplomats, journalists, government officials do not apply to the regulation of Tibet tour with TTB permit. |

It takes about 5-7 working days for Tibet travel Permit applications, as well as Chinese visa applications; it normally takes 2-3 days for obtaining Chinese visa in Chinese embassy of Kathmandu. Therefore it would be better to have 15 days in notice to confirm the trip in order to ensuring the time is sufficient for all paper works; |
